Both Red’s Planet and Cleopatra in Space have been nominated for 2010 Webcomic List Awards. Red’s Planet for Best Comic and Best New Comic. And Cleopatra in Space for Best Character (Cleo).
I was just doodling away when I made this little sketch of Mary (from my webcomic My Sister, the Freak) hanging out with Red (from Eddie Pittman’s Red’s Planet). I have a feeling these two would be great friends.
Hi all. I thought I’d share some of the process that went into this week’s Cleopatra in Space. I don’t have the time for a detailed tutorial, but hopefully this visual step-by step is still kinda interesting. You can go HERE for a more in-depth process (well, before I starting coloring this thing). Also, you might enjoy this process vid I made of this page (flash required).
Thanks to Mark Harmon for showing such great Spacedock 7 devotion with these awesome pieces of fan art. Be sure to check out the rest of Mark’s work over on his website.
The first print collection of Cleopatra in Space came out last week and as a special bonus to readers, my fellow Spacedock 7 crewmates each [graciously] drew a pinup for the book. I thought it’d be fun to share them all here for you, presented together for the first time (besides in the book of course).

Unfortunately Otis Frampton was unable to draw a pin-up since he was driving cross-country at the time. But don’t worry, I’ll get him next time!
Both Katie Cook and Mike Maihack will be at San Diego Comic-Con this week, and you’ll be able to find them on opposite ends of the imperial cruiser sized convention hall floor.
Katie will be in in ARTISTS’ ALLEY, table GG-02. DETAILS HERE.
Mike will be in SMALL PRESS, table N-05. DETAILS HERE.
Here are some maps!
Cleopatra in Space’s first printed collection will debut at the show, featuring pin-ups from five of the SD7 crew. Katie will have a brand new mini-comic featuring her cat and some naughty language.
Comics Should Be Good columnist, Kelly Thompson, recently listed 10 webcomics she loves and that list included Spacedock’s own Gronk and Cleopatra in Space! The remaining eight are a pretty amazing and renowned bunch so it’s quite flattering to be mentioned along side them. You can read the full article HERE.
Congrats Katie! (and me too I guess, but that feels weird since I’m the one writing this post)
Well, four of us will be at least. Joel Carroll, Grant Gould, Otis Frampton and Mike Maihack will all have individual tables spread out around the con. To make it easier to find us, here’s a spiffy map:
Mike and Otis have also donated art to Heroes’ annual art auction, which helps fund the show and maintain its awesomeness.

Limited ed prints of the above Cleo art will also be available at Mike’s table.
We are super excited about this weekend and hope to see a lot of you there! HeroesCon is June 4-6, Charlotte Convention Center.
